Can We Look to Hydrogen As A Viable Long-Term Back-up for Data Centres
Data centres are responsible for around 3% of the world’s energy demand, and their energy consumption is only likely to grow as they increase in number and capacity. The phasing out of diesel and other hydrocarbons to help realise a net zero future will require a viable back-up alternative. Could low-carbon hydrogen as an energy storage medium be the answer when considering greener forms of back-up power generation? Stefan will discuss options for hydrogen implementation and technologies, look at the comparison of hydrogen vs diesel, and summarise some of the challenges hydrogen can pose including spatial requirements and cost. To conclude, he’ll put forward alternative models which allow hydrogen-based power generation to work.
