Chroma Unveils Next-Generation High Power Density AC Source for AI Data Centre Power Testing
The Chroma 61860HF delivers 60 kVA output in a compact 5U form factor for high-density AI server and data centre power testing.

As AI servers and high-density data centres demand increasingly powerful and resilient electrical infrastructure, test systems must reproduce complex grid conditions accurately while using less laboratory space. Introduced at the OCP APAC Summit 2026, Chroma’s new 61860HF Regenerative Grid Simulator combines high power density, fast transient performance and regenerative operation to meet these emerging test requirements.

Chroma ATE has officially launched the 61860HF Regenerative Grid Simulator, the latest addition to its high-performance AC source portfolio. The new platform is designed to address the growing power-validation requirements of AI servers, power shelves, rack-level power systems and next-generation data centre infrastructure.

High power density in a compact platform

The Chroma 61860HF delivers up to 60 kVA of output power from a compact 5U chassis. Compared with earlier solutions in the same power class, it provides 14.7 times greater power density while reducing system height and weight by 87%.

Its compact design transforms a traditionally floor-standing power system into a benchtop-compatible instrument. The unit can also be integrated with electronic loads, power meters and other instruments to form a complete automated power-testing rack.

Built for AI server power validation

The 61860HF provides the bandwidth, low-ripple output and fast transient response required to evaluate the stability and reliability of AI server power systems.

Key test applications include:

• AI server and data centre power validation
• ITIC pre-compliance testing
• Extreme power line disturbance simulation
• Fast dynamic and transient response testing
• Power shelf and rack-level power testing
• Input power anomaly and grid disturbance simulation
• Harmonic and interharmonic waveform testing

Scalable for higher-voltage and higher-power systems

As data centres transition towards higher-voltage and higher-power architectures, the 61860HF provides output-voltage extension capabilities and supports high-voltage operation through series-connected units.

Advanced fibre-optic communication also enables multiple units to operate in parallel, allowing the test platform to scale for demanding server power and data centre applications.

Regenerative and energy-efficient operation

The four-quadrant regenerative design can return energy generated during testing to the grid instead of dissipating it as heat. This helps reduce electricity consumption, cooling requirements and operating costs during high-power and long-duration testing.
