Driving PUE Below 1.2 : Valve Optimisation for Data Centre Cooling Efficiency

As data centers expand at an unprecedented pace, the stability and energy efficiency of cooling water systems have become core operational priorities. In these 24/7 “heat islands,” the chilled water loops are perpetually under high load—yet conventional strainers have long suffered from two persistent pains: first, high flow resistance and excessive localized head losses, which force pumps to run at elevated energy levels, directly contradicting the industry’s pressing need for energy conservation and emission reduction; second, the lack of visual differential pressure monitoring leaves maintenance crews with no choice but to rely on experience or scheduled disassembly to judge screen clogging. Premature cleaning wastes labor and accelerates screen wear, while delayed cleaning can lead to insufficient water flow, degraded cooling capacity, and even catastrophic server overheating and downtime.

Driven by a sixmonth indepth field study and operational data analysis at multiple data center customer sites, Yongquan Valve pinpointed this “invisible and unmeasurable” maintenance blind spot. In response, we have developed and launched our nextgeneration smart strainer. While keeping the nominal bore size unchanged, the product reconfigures the internal flow passage geometry to substantially increase the effective flow area, thereby drastically reducing localized head losses and fundamentally lowering fluid resistance. Realworld test data show a significant reduction in pump energy consumption compared with traditional models—delivering tangible improvements to data center PUE optimization and representing Yongquan Valve’s concrete commitment to China’s “dual carbon” goals.

More critically, the new strainer comes standard with an externally mounted differential pressure gauge, making the inletoutlet pressure drop visible at a glance. Maintenance personnel can now read the realtime differential pressure without opening the housing or guessing the screen condition. When the differential pressure reaches a preset alarm threshold, the system prompts precise cleaning. This design completely ends the passive model of “scheduled blind disassembly” or “fix it only when clogged,” enabling true conditionbased maintenance. It effectively prevents both production interruptions from clogging and unnecessary screen wear from overfrequent cleaning, significantly reducing maintenance frequency and overall operational costs.

From painpoint discovery to technological breakthrough, Yongquan Valve remains committed to innovation driven by realworld customer scenarios. This smart strainer offers data center water systems a comprehensive upgrade package—low resistance, visual monitoring, and intelligent control—and marks a solid step forward for the valve industry toward refined, lowcarbon operations. The product has already passed onsite validation by leading cloud service providers and is now formally available for general orders. Looking ahead, Yongquan Valve will continue to deepen scenariobased solutions and deliver more hardcore products to power the green data centers of tomorrow.
