Energy efficiency has long been incorporated into the design and operation of SKB’s Kota Damansara plant. Natural daylighting reduces the need for artificial lighting during operating hours, while other efficiency measures support more responsible use of energy and resources.

The installation of a rooftop solar system in the fourth quarter of 2022 marked another significant step in this journey. From 2023 to 2025, the system helped SKB avoid more than 2,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

This initiative earned SKB Shutters Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. the Gold Award in the Renewable Energy category for SMEs and mid-tier companies at the ESG Positive Impact Awards 2025. The awards are organised by Star Media Group, publisher of The Star, Malaysia’s leading English-language newspaper.

SKB is now taking its sustainability commitment further at its new manufacturing facility in Puncak Alam. The facility integrates extensive natural daylighting, insulated double-layer roofing, UV-reducing double-glazed glass, inverter air-conditioning and a solar-ready roof.

A rainwater-harvesting system with a total capacity of o1,000,000 litres will collect water for suitable non-potable applications, helping reduce demand on treated mains water. Together, these features are intended to improve resource efficiency, internal working conditions and the facility’s readiness for future renewable-energy expansion.

The transition represents more than a physical relocation. It reflects SKB’s ongoing commitment to embedding environmental considerations into its manufacturing operations while supporting customers, including data centre operators, whose sustainability and supply-chain expectations continue to evolve.

Through its Future Forward initiative, SKB is building on an established foundation to create a more efficient, resilient and sustainable manufacturing platform for its next phase of growth.
