PRL High-Dynamic Regenerative DC Load Simulator Announced by ActionPower for AI Data Center Testing
By integrating the core advantages of conventional linear and switch-mode loads, the PRL tackles a major power testing contradiction for modern AI infrastructures. While traditional linear programmable loads offer the dynamics that align with the volatile and shifting power draw patterns of AI servers, they do not recover energy to the utility grid like switch-mode architectures do. The PRL unprecedentedly combines the defining edges of both systems.
One Platform in Two Voltage Versions, with Specifications Far Exceeding Standards Requirements for AI Infrastructure Validation
PRL Regenerative High-Dynamic DC Load Simulator is available in two voltage rating versions of 80V and 1000V, respectively applied for AI power node validation and testing across HVDC and SST architectures, which represent the futuristic technical pathways for AI servers and data centers.
- The PRL 80V Series (Up to 18.5 kW per 5U unit): The 80V version features an ultra-fast slew rate of 60 A per μs, which far exceeds the requirement set by OCP ORV3 (6 A per μs) for 50V/54V PSU testing applications, by replicating the severe, microsecond-level transient power steps of server Power Shelves, OAM modules, and localized CPU/GPU/VRM workloads.
- The PRL 1000V Series (Up to 25 kW per unit): The higher-voltage version of PRL targets testing applications for the facility distribution front-end, and above all, for Solid-State Transformers (SST) and mainstream High-Voltage DC (800V/400V) distribution architectures, with a 4.5 A per μs maximum slew rate capability and a minimum current fall time of ≤8μs.
Modular Scalability for Higher Power Testing and Consistent Regeneration Capability under High-Frequency Dynamic Testing
The PRL offers parallel connection options to scale up to a 175 kW power rating, integrating 7 units of 5U chassis into a single cabinet with a footprint of only 800 × 1000 × 1955 mm.
While the rated regeneration efficiency exceeds 85% for regular operation, the PRL consistently maintains energy recovery with a measured efficiency of >70.35%, even during rigorous 1kHz dynamic full-load step testing.
