uFraction8 PL Sp. z o.o. is a deep-technology company developing scalable microfluidic separation systems for biotechnology and biomanufacturing. Its technology has been demonstrated in large-scale microalgae processing involving thousands of litres and is now being translated into a compact benchtop platform for wider biological applications.

The Opportunity

Separation technologies remain a major technical and commercial bottleneck in bioprocessing. Conventional approaches (i.e., centrifugation and membrane filtration) can introduce shear stress, fouling, product loss, high consumable usage and operational complexity. Challenges which increase as biomanufacturing moves towards scale, higher cell densities, more sensitive products, continuous processing and agile smaller facilities.

uFraction8's platform uses precisely engineered inertial microfluidics to separate particulates (i.e. cells) based on size and molecular weight cut-offs. Designed for continuous, low-shear processing while reducing reliance on filters, membranes and high-speed rotating equipment. Current value propositions include:

Proven at Scale, Designed for Accessibility

Microfluidic technologies are often associated with laboratory-scale devices and limited throughput. uFraction8 has taken the opposite development pathway. Its technology has already operated within large-scale microalgae processes involving thousands of litres, working continuously up to 45 days, demonstrating that the underlying separation principle can be engineered for industrially relevant applications.

The company is now scaling this capability down into a benchtop-sized device to lower the capital, infrastructure and operational barriers to evaluation and adoption. Customers will be able to test the platform in their own processes, establish technical and commercial feasibility, and progress towards higher-throughput deployment. The benchtop system is therefore the productisation of technology informed by large-scale operating experience, not simply an early laboratory prototype. Initial wider applications include precision fermentation (i.e., bacteria, yeasts), extraction of valuable biomaterials (i.e. microalgae, cyanobacteria) and mammalian cell processing (i.e., rProteins, mAbs, AAV/LV, vaccines) as well as general bioprocessing unit operations such as clarification and cell retention.

R&D and Manufacturing in Poland

All R&D, engineering and productisation work is carried out in Poznań (Poland), where the microfluidic separation technology is developed, refined and manufactured. The wider uFraction8 group is headquartered in the UK, supporting commercialisation, investment relationships and international business development.

Next Stage

uFraction8 is entering a critical phase focused on commercialisation of the benchtop platform, with a long-term regulatory focus on biopharma and single use consumables. Short term focus is to validate priority applications, establish early customer partnerships and building the organisational structure required for commercial growth.

The company is seeking engagement with experienced individuals who can contribute through board leadership, strategic advice, industry networks, investment relationships and commercial partnerships.
