Alvaro Garrido is the COO for Technology and Operations and CIO for Information Security and Data at Standard Chartered. He joined the Bank in May 2022 as Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and is based in Singapore. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Alvaro served as Group Chief Security Officer & Group Chief Information Security Officer at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) in Spain for more than four years where he was in charge of Information and Cyber Security, Fraud and Physical Security. With an extensive career in Cyber Security, IT and Operations under his belt, Álvaro has held several industry-leading roles in multinationals including Nordea where he served as the Group CIO, British American Tobacco as Global Head of Technology Services, Roche Pharmaceuticals as Head of IT Engineering and Sun Microsystems. Álvaro has worked in regions as diverse as Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. Alvaro holds an MBA in International Management Program, Business Administration and Management, General from MIT Sloan School of Management and a MSc in Telecommunication engineering, Telecommunication from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
