The New Geography of Digital Infrastructure: Why AI Growth is Shifting Toward Power-Rich, Execution-Ready Markets Like India

29 Sept 2026
Energy Security & Efficiency Theatre

AI is rewiring the geography of digital infrastructure. Where locations were once chosen for fiber and exchanges, power availability, renewable access, execution readiness, regulatory clarity, and rapid scalability now decide where AI can realistically deploy. High density AI workloads expose limits in traditional hubs—grid congestion, interconnection delays, land scarcity, and rising OPEX—driving capital toward markets with firm, dispatchable energy and fast execution. India illustrates this transition: producing nearly 20% of the world’s data, it combines fast digital adoption, growing renewable capacity, deep engineering talent, and increasing hyperscale interest—yet hosts a comparatively small share of global data centre capacity. The winners will be countries and sites that align energy policy, grid readiness, connectivity, and streamlined permitting to deliver infrastructure certainty. This session will unpack how hyperscalers are rethinking location strategy, why powered, execution ready markets are rising, and what governments and investors must do to become AI infrastructure hubs.
